National Honours for Crusaders FC Girls
21 Jan 2016 by Greg Green
Great to see our Crusaders FC Girls progressing through the ranks. Kirsten “Mbali” Nolan, Kelsey Dawson and Shakeerah Jacobs all with the SA U17 squad preparing for the World Cup Qualifier on January 9th.
Kirsten spent many years as a leading striker for the Crusaders FC Girls team under Bruno Fernandes and Trevor Joss before moving to JVW and is now currently with University of JHB SAsol League team. Mbali knows where the goal is as she scored over 35 goals for the girls team in boys league one season. Her year at UJ has seen her grow in to a mature young player. Looking forward to seeing her in the National Jersey.
Kelsey Dawson came to Crusaders FC from her school team as an outfield player. Standing in goal for an exhibition match showed me another side to Kelsey and we convinced her and her parents to try the Goalkeeping position. This earned Kelsey a spot at the Tuks Sports School HPC in 2014. On recommendation from Sheryl Botes at HPC she moved to JVW in 2015 while we still allowed her to train with Alan Marcus our Crusaders FC goalkeeping coach. Thank you to Alan Marcus for grooming Kelsey and your wise counsel before the first National training camp.
Shakeerah came to us from West Rand United as an already very talented player. She was an asset to every team she played in and developed rapidly in to a versatile all round player. She got offered her spot at the Tuks Sports School HPC for 2015. Shaks excelled at HPC and also Captained the Gauteng U15 team to the National title while achieving Top Goal Scorer awards at both the National Tournament and HPC. Dale Craig September and your other coaches take a bow! Shaks is currently only 15 years old!
Three talented but very dedicated, hardworking and totally committed players!
Well done to OUR girls on a remarkable achievement and we hope to see you on the field for the National team soon.
